12 dead as coal mine is flooded

A COAL mine flood in south-west China killed 12 people, adding more casualties to the thousands killed each year in mining accidents.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday that 50 miners were working at the Dapo mine in Anshun when it flooded .

Thirty-eight people, including the mine's managers, managed to escape, the report said. The cause of the flooding is still under investigation.
