11 people involved in Belshill drug dealing ‘network’ arrested

POLICE have arrested a “network” of drug dealers in North Lanarkshire.

The eleven people were detained in Bellshill following a three-week operation, Strathclyde police said.

The group consisted of seven men and four women, who are being held in connection with the supply of heroin and cocaine.

The seven men are aged 20, 22, 28, 36, 40, 41 and 44, and the four women, aged 31, 38, 41 and 41.

Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell said: “Today was the conclusion of a three-week operation targeting an organised group of individuals identified as being involved in drug dealing within the town centre area of Bellshill.

“We have listened to the public who are subjected to this on a daily basis when going about their daily business - and we have taken decisive action.

“The eleven people arrested today form a network of street dealers who brought misery to the local community - this is not acceptable and Strathclyde Police has reacted positively to this matter.

“The operation carries on; and our financial investigators are already working on seizures and restraints under Proceeds of Crime legislation.

“I hope that the residents of Bellshill will be reassured that this proactive activity will continue within the area and to I would ask that they contact their local police office to report any further incidents.”
