10,000 signed up to NHS Lothian's organ donation campaign

MORE than 10,000 people in Lothian have chosen to "Sign up to save a life" after NHS Lothian's organ donation campaign.

The drive was so successful that the number of people joining the register in Lothian doubled in November and December. Only 5000 had joined the donor register in September and October.

Lothian already has one of the highest numbers of people on the register in Scotland, but NHS Lothian wants to increase it from 42 per cent to at least 50 per cent of the population.

The campaign launch followed the 50th anniversary of the UK's first live donor kidney transplant at the Royal Infirmary in 1960.
