10,000 get set for great race

MORE than 10,000 runners are expected to take part in this year's Bupa Great Edinburgh Run through the city centre on Sunday.

This includes more than 1,000 youngsters aged between three and 14 participating in the Bupa Mini and Junior Great Edinburgh Runs.

Each race begins and ends in Holyrood Park, with the event site being open to all runners from 9am.

The elite women start the ball rolling at 10:15am, with the elite men and mass runners setting off at 10:35am. The Bupa Mini Great Edinburgh Run begins at 1:30pm with the junior event following at 2:15pm.

A race spokesman said: "The course takes in some of the city's best-loved landmarks including Edinburgh Castle, the famous cobbles of the Royal Mile, the Scott Monument, the Scottish Parliament and, by kind permission of Her Majesty The Queen, the forecourt of the historic Palace of Holyroodhouse."
