1,000 new jobs for Arbroath

ANGUS Council yesterday unveiled proposals for a multi-million-pound business park in Arbroath, which could eventually lead to the creation of about 1,000 jobs in the town.

The council is proposing to develop the site in two phases, with the first to be completed within the next two years and the second ten years later.

Councillor David May, its economic development spokesman, said: "We are currently working on the detailed costings to confirm the project's financial viability. If the costs stack up, the development could start in 2011."

A council spokeswoman said: "Based upon employment levels at Arbroath Enterprise Park, it is estimated that over 1,000 jobs could be accommodated on a fully occupied site."
