100 calls after World's End Crimewatch show

DETECTIVES investigating the World’s End murders have revealed they received almost 100 calls following a reconstruction of the killings on BBC’s Crimewatch last night.

And they revealed that one person who has never contacted them before came forward to say she knew the two victims, Christine Eadie and Helen Scott. Officers will now interview the woman in the hope that she may offer fresh information.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders police said detectives were pleased with the public response.

She said: "The reconstruction was helpful, especially over the distinctive appearance of one of the men seen drinking in the pub with the girls that night which sparked reaction from the public.

"Several names have been suggested and detectives will follow up on all information received."

She said police were still very anxious to receive information about the clothing and personal effects belonging to the murder victims, which have never been found, including a distinctive imitation fur coat and a blue brushed denim jumpsuit worn by Christine on that night and clogs, jeans and a leather satchel worn by Helen.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders police on 0131-454-0320.
