Now that dometic travel restrictions seem to be a thing of the past many of us are looking forward to exploring the gems on our doorstep that we may have taken for granted pre-pandemic.

In this year of the Scottish staycation, we thought we’d look at some of the loveliest Scottish towns that have enough to entertain you for a full weekend away.

Here are 11 perfect destinations for a quick break.

Just to the south of Aberdeen, Stonehaven is a town famous for its Hogmanay fireballs celebrations, but is a great place to visit at any time of year. The Stonehaven Tolbooth Museum is contained in a former jail, the working harbour is a must-see, and dramatic clifftop Dunnottar Castle is nearby.
