Other Scottish restaurants which appear in the top 50 best in Britain are The Peat Inn in Fife and Edinburgh’s
The Kitchin, Castle Terrace and Restaurant Martin Wishart.

The Three Chimneys was named number 25 on the list, as well as winning the Editor’s Choice award.

Elizabeth Carter, Editor of The Good Food Guide said: “It is superbly satisfying to come across a restaurant that knows just what it’s doing, without seeming to try.”

She added: “Chef Scott Davies is evangelistic about Skye’s culinary heritage and his menus are strongly rooted in the immediate area – most ingredients come from a 20-mile radius. This is where The Three Chimneys truly excels, and makes its mark: in the quality of those raw ingredients and in the rich depth of flavour that distinguishes every dish. This is memorable, engaging cooking served by a proud team.”

Scott Davies, Head Chef at The Three Chimneys, said: “As chefs in the kitchen we have our heads down with the blinkers on, getting on with the job. So it was a bolt out of the blue to get a call from the Editor of The Good Food Guide and find out that The Three Chimneys has won Restaurant of the Year. I was so thrilled.

“Even happier because the award celebrates our closeness to our suppliers, the seasonality of our produce, and of course good food and great service. So it is a huge honour for all of the team at The Three Chimneys and our local community.”

New Scottish entries to the guide included The Newport in Newport-on-Tay, Dulse & Brose and Scorrybreac, both on Skye, Alchemilla and Turnip & Enjoy in Glasgow and Forage & Chatter, Canonball and Dishoom in Edinburgh.

UK-wide, Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall was ranked the best overall restaurant, taking the title from L’Enclume in Cumbria after their four years at the summit.

This year’s edition also
features four new entries housed under railway arches and Vice and Virtue, a Leeds’ restaurant located in a former strip club.
