The development, which is on the site of the former Niddrie Mill Primary School, is a mix of re-utilising and regeneration of older buildings and new build homes.

At its heart is the transformation of the beautiful brick built landmark school while in its surrounding former playground, construction and manufacturing specialist CCG (Scotland) Ltd are using the latest off site construction methods to create a range of beautiful new homes.

The Schoolhouse development, when complete, will comprise a total of 66 residential properties, including 34 apartments for social and mid market rent and a further 17 period conversion flats in the former school building plus 15 terraced homes for private sale.

With such a prominent location, there has already been a huge amount of buyer interest since the off-plan sales release, with several homes sold already, so the opening of the showhome has been an anticipated event.

Buyers have already reserved seven of the 32 private sale apartments and houses, with some no doubt attracted to the significant added benefit of Help To Buy which is still available at the development - one of a dwindling number of sites where buyers who want help with a deposit are still being offered the government backed incentive.

The designers have sympathetically retained the characterful and solid, brick built façade of the original school building, while creating some stunning apartments within.

The development will feature vibrant new green spaces, including around the Category C listed memorial which will be preserved in its original landmark location in front of the school building, which will also feature the beautifully restored bell-tower.

The Schoolhouse forms part of the regeneration programme for Craigmillar being delivered by PARC Craigmillar Ltd. that will see 2,000 new homes built in the area. The initiative has seen the location, just minutes from the city centre, rejuvenated as it has welcomed increasing numbers of young families and professionals moving in, attracted by new homes in this convenient location. With rail and bus links on the doorstep, easy access to the A1 motorway, Edinburgh City Centre, Fort Kinnaird Shopping Centre, Musselburgh, Portobello and the countryside of East Lothian are all within easy commuting distance.

The period conversion of the original school features two quite unique one bedroom apartments and 15 two bedroom apartments, across ground, first and second floors of the building.

The fifteen terraced homes are slightly larger offer a choice of two and three bedrooms and as well as suiting downsizers and professionals are attracting young families, with private gardens and driveway parking to most.

Show home opening hours are Friday to Sunday 11am to 5pm.
