In response, the housebuilder has launched a new release of homes including the three-bedroom terraced Brodie, which offers spacious accommodation over two floors, expansive south-facing gardens and a choice of kitchen and bathroom fittings.

Prices for the house type start at £199,995, which means they qualify for the Scottish Government’s Help to Buy (Scotland) scheme, designed to help those struggling to come up with a deposit.

Mike Cowie, sales director for Barratt North Scotland, says: “Ness Castle’s continued popularity is unsurprising given its stunning setting.

“It has so many eye-catching features such as traditional dry stone walls, tree-lined pathways and expansive green space, all in keeping with the local surroundings.

“And with many of the properties available for under the £230,000 Help to Buy threshold, we expect phase two to sell out fast.”

Visitors to the development can get a taste of what’s on offer at Ness Castle’s Balmoral and Dornoch showhomes.

The four-bedroom detached Balmoral offers plenty of flexible space.

The ground floor has a lounge and study, downstairs cloakroom and utility area and a large open-plan kitchen and dining area plus extra space for seating.

Upstairs, the Balmoral has three double bedrooms, one of which has its own ensuite shower room, plus a single bedroom, all with built-in wardrobes. It also has a large family bathroom and extra storage space on the landing.

Also detached, the Dornoch is another four-bedroomed family home. Downstairs is a large lounge, fitted dining kitchen with French doors to the rear garden and a handy utility area with cloakroom.

Like the Balmoral, it has three double bedrooms and one single bedroom, some with built-in wardrobes.

It also has a spacious family bathroom and an ensuite.

Barratt Homes has also just launched the Brodie view home, giving visitors the chance to experience a smaller three-bedroom house type without the showhome trimmings.

The location of the development is just three miles from Inverness and there are amenities such as supermarkets, schools and a well- regarded academy close by.

Public transport in the area is good but residents here also enjoy the trappings of a rural life, with the picturesque river setting and canal walks on the doorstep. There are also a couple of golf courses close by.

Homes currently available range in price from £175,995 to £304,995.
