Coronavirus drives demand for new homes with gardens and offices

A Scottish housebuilder is experiencing a surge in demand from families looking for new homes with gardens, offices and bigger living spaces as the impacts of the coronavirus crisis change the way people are living their lives.

Livingston-based firm Dundas Estates has witnessed a run of reservations for family-sized homes at its new development in West Lothian.

The firm has already taken £16 million in sales for houses at Uphall Station, with buyers seeking more space for their money and convenient access to the outdoors in the wake of the pandemic.

The level of demand has prompted the developer to release a second phase of 266 homes at the site, including properties with three, four and five bedrooms.

Heather Birrell, sales manager for Dundas Estates, believes the key characteristics of the development are a major part of the appeal for house-hunters, whose demands have changed due to Covid-19.

She said: “This is a milestone development for us, bringing large, spacious homes within reach of both the capital and many families’ budgets.

“The near sell-out of phase one and the unveiling of our second phase comes as the development is beginning to really take shape.

“It’s a lovely, tranquil location.

Uphall Station is billed as a small, family-friendly community near the town of Livingston, featuring quiet neighbourhoods and good connections with nearby towns, cities and countryside.
