5. Norfolk Terrier
Alert and fearless, but with a lovable disposition, Norfolk Terriers are the smallest of the working terrier breeds at just 10 inches to the shoulder. But what they lack in size they make up for in character. They are wire-haired so hypoallergenic, and love people and children.

6. Scottish Terrier
The Scottie or Scottish Terrier is a spirited and playful breed. First bred in Aberdeen as a fox and badger hunter, the fearless breed was nicknamed "the diehard". But their distinctive look and loyal nature has built much popularity over the years, helped by two US Presidents, the Monopoly playing piece, and Lady and the Tramp character Jock.

8. Cairn Terrier
Cairn Terriers are another Scottish breed, originating from the Western Highlands and the Isle of Skye. Bred to chase down "vermin" between cairns, these dogs are natural ratters. They have shaggy fur which needs to be hand-stripped and have active, cheerful personalities.
