FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD

Kings Chicken has been popping up, with their fried chicken burgers and sangers, at various venues around Edinburgh for a while now. However, they’ve found a longer term home and have set up at pizza joint The High Dive, starting from Friday, February 5 (1-7pm) and Saturday, February 6 (1-7pm), then Thursday, February 11 (6-9pm), Friday, February 12 (1-8pm) and Saturday, February 13 (1-8pm), with more days later on. Check out their Instagram @king.of.feasts and @kings.chicken.edinburgh for menus and more details.

HOT DINNERS

If you want to try dishes like aboiboi, pork ribs in sticky plantain sauce, or black pudding and yam Scotch egg, then order the hardback of Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen by Zoe Adjonyoh. It’s just been re-released with a new cover, and features traditional West African dishes that have been “remixed” for the modern kitchen.

Hampers seem to be the thing this Valentine’s Day. Buck & Birch have launched a Wild Night In version, £24.95, which includes Buck & Birch liqueur, a wild cocktail for two, a recipe card, and some foraged ingredients to add to your creation. Or for cheesy types, IJ Mellis have a Valentine’s Hamper for two, at £50, containing a selection of fromage, including a heart-shaped Baron Bigod brie, chocolate, crackers and Tomato and Chilli Jam.

EAST NEUK JAM

As it is forced Yorkshire rhubarb season, Pittenweem Preserves have created a new recipe – Rhubarb & Lemon Marmalade, at £3 – which will be produced in a small batch like all their other jams.

HOLD THE PEPPERONI

Vegan pizza chain Veganizza opened a Glasgow branch (90 St Vincent Street) last month and now they’re offering Bake at Home pizzas, available nationwide for next day delivery. They’re par-baked, to be finished off in your oven and toppings include blistered red pepper and aubergine (pictured), at £8.50; gorgonzola, Rioja pear and walnut, at £8.75, or sea salt and black pepper “chicken”.

TAKES ALLSORTS

If you’re smitten by a liquorice fan, get them something Valentine-y from the new LOVE collection by Danish brand Lakrids by Bulow. This large tub costs £27, which may be out of the price range of the average Bertie Bassett, though you can also get small tubs for £9. They’re available in two flavours – strawberries and cream, and fruit caramel.

The ‘OMBLES OF ‘IMBLEDON

We think someone in the M&S food design department has lost their marbles, if some of their new products are anything to go by. Not only have they created a Love Sausage, at £6 – aka a heart-shaped pig in a blanket – in time for Valentine’s Day, they’ve also launched The Ombles. These chocolate creatures – £6 for one or £5 for two minis – have been designed as a fresh new face to sit alongside the comparatively geriatric 29-year-old Percy Pig and 31-year-old Colin the Caterpillar.
