After all, what if the experience is a complete disaster? What if the food is bland, the waiter is rude and the wine tastes like the server got it mixed up with a vinegar bottle?

Less than five years in existence, the establishment on the Royal Mile has already earned a reputation for being one of Edinburgh’s best. Diners cannot help but be impressed with the contrasting mix of subtle, contemporary design in a 17th century building, creating an intimate atmosphere.

2 Twenty, Grill & Smokehouse

The views of Edinburgh’s skyline is what sets this restaurant and cocktail bar apart from others like it. Situated on the east side of Prices Street it offers a spectacular view of the Old Town.

3 La Garrigue

The French are stereotypically romantic so it’s unsurprising that La Garrigue, one of the city’s most respected French restaurants, makes this list. The cosy eatery can be found on Jeffrey Street on the walk from Waverley Station to the Royal Mile.

4 The Stockbridge Restaurant

Just like the areas which surrounds it, The Stockbridge Restaurant is known for its friendly atmosphere. It’s a little on the pricey side but the owners pride themselves on avoiding pretentiousness.

5 Howies

Sat on Waterloo Place between Carlton Hill and Princes Street, this Georgian Dining Hall, complete with Scottish art dotted around the walls, provides an excellent setting for any romantic meal. The restaurant prides itself on being a great setting for any occasion, with a private room available for family celebrations and a wedding license.

6 Fishers in the City

The sister restaurant of Fishers in Leith, this spacious seafood place offers a spacious setting for couples to enjoy their Valentine’s Day meal. Situated on Thistle Street in the city centre.

7 WHISKI Rooms Bar & Bistro

Known for its excellent food and drink options, this eatery could entice couples who wish to have a few drinks as they celebrate their relationship. Unsurprisingly, it’s a real favourite with whisky connoisseurs and can be found on North Bank Street between The Mound and the George IV Bridge.

8 Victor & Carina Contini Ristorante

This authentic Italian restaurant on the east end of George Street is popular with couples due to its lively ambience. Also offers an array of cocktails on its drinks menu.

9 Tapa

Tapas is always a good idea for couples, particularly those who are not adverse to sharing their food and trying different things. The Shore Place eatery is also noted for its excellent gluten free options.

10 Iris

There must be something inherently romantic about your restaurant if its situated on Thistle Street. It must be the cobbled roads! In contrast with the historic settings outside, Iris offers a European menu with a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
