Mitie hails ‘transformational’ deal with Diageo

OUTSOURCING firm Mitie has won a “transformational” contract with drinks giant Diageo, which is likely to be worth between £80 million and £95m over five years.

The firm, which employs some 6,000 people in Scotland, has been taken on by the country’s largest distiller to run “integrated facilities management” and hospitality services throughout its UK and Irish operations.

Diageo, whose brands include Johnnie Walker and famous stout Guinness, has 70 sites in the UK and Ireland, including its global headquarters in London. In Scotland, it has 28 distilleries and employs about 4,000 staff.

Mitie has been providing integrated facilities management services to Diageo in Ireland since June 2010, after it acquired local rival Dalkia FM.

This latest contract, which significantly extends the relationship between the two firms, was awarded following a strategic review by Diageo.

Ruby McGregor-Smith, chief executive of the outsourcing firm, said: “We are delighted to have grown our existing relationship with Diageo to deliver strategic outsourcing across the UK and Ireland.

“We look forward to building on our partnership and delivering world-class services to this prestigious business.”

Last month, Mitie revealed it is sitting on a record order book after securing most of its budgeted revenues in just the first three months of the financial year.
