How do NHS staff get free Uber meals? Uber Eats and rides festive deal for health workers explained - and how to claim

NHS and HSC staff can choose to order a hot meal from a local restaurant, or everyday essentials from a nearby shop

The festive season is almost upon us and Uber is saying thank you to NHS staff for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic, by giving them free rides and meals this Christmas.

Anyone who has an NHS or HSC email address will be able to claim two £10 Uber rides and a £10 meal via Uber Eats from 23 – 27 December.

How do I claim a free meal with Uber Eats?

The company is offering over 80,000 free meals for NHS staff through Uber Eats, which will be available from thousands of restaurants and convenience stores.

NHS and HSC staff can choose to order a hot meal from a local restaurant, or everyday essentials from a nearby shop, which will all be delivered to their home or even the ward.

The offer will be valid for one £10 free meal per NHS or HSC staff member.

In order to claim your free meal, you will need an Uber Eats account linked to your NHS or HSC email address by the 20 December 2020.

In order to change the email address associated with your Uber Eats account, you will need to:

- Tap ‘Account’

- Tap ‘View account’

- Tap ‘Edit account’

- You can now view and edit your email address

Once updated, you will then be sent a verification email. You will need to click on the link in that email in order to validate your email address.

You must update your email address by 20 December in order to receive a promotion code.

On 22 December 2020, you will then be emailed a promo code, which you will need to add to your Uber Eats account in order to be able to claim the offer.

It’s worth noting that Uber Eats will pay for your meal up to £10, but if you go over this then you will be charged the difference.

How can I claim my free ride?

Uber is also committing up to 200,000 free rides for NHS workers over the festive season, which will be available to all staff with a valid NHS or HSC email address between 23 - 27 December 2020.

The offer will be valid for up to two £10 free rides per NHS or HSC staff member.

In order to claim your two free rides, you will need an Uber account linked to your NHS or HSC email address.

In order to change the email address associated with your Uber account, you will need to:

- Tap on the menu on the top left of the Uber app

- Tap on your profile picture

- You can now view and edit your email address

- You will be sent a verification email – please click the link in that email to validate your email address.

If you don’t currently have an Uber account, you can sign up for one, but make sure to sign up using your NHS or HSC email address.

On the 22 December 2020, you will then be emailed a promo code which you will need to add to your Uber account in order to claim the offer.

After you have applied the code, the promotion will be automatically included in the upfront price you see when requesting a trip.

Again, Uber will pay the trip fare up to £10, but if you go over this then you will be charged the difference.
