Edinburgh restaurant Superico 83 'to close for forseeable future'

Superico 83, a popular restaurant which had gained an amazing reputation among Capital food fans, is set to close its doors ‘for the forseeable future’ after hospitality restrictions were extended, it has been reported.

Having only recently transformed from Hanover 83 to Superico 83, the restaurant at 83 Hanover Street is has now reportedly told staff their employment has been terminated with immediate effect, as the business will be closed ‘for the forseeable future’.

The news comes after it was announced that the central belt circuit breaker lockdown restrictions would be extended.

Loved by Edinburgh foodies for its tasty tapas and cool, colourful interiors, Superico 83 was forced to close temporarily earlier this year alongside other licensed restaurants, bars and cafes under coronavirus restrictions. According to its website, the sister restaurant to Superico 99 presented menus “perfect for a quick solo bite overlooking the open kitchen, an easy-going lunch or an exuberant dinner and drinks with friends.”

News of the restaurants closure came first from the Wee Food Blogger, who said in an Instagram post: "Absolutely devastated to wake up to the news that @superico_83 has closed its doors for the last time.. One of my favourites from its inception that I never stopped raving about. So sad that sometimes our best is never enough.”

The blogger encouraged followers to share the post, which went on to highlight Superico 83’s potential closure as “a timely reminder to to support your favourites wherever you can”.

“Even if you can't afford to keep eating out, keep telling people about that amazing meal you once had, keep sharing those pictures from 2 years ago, keep liking their pictures, sharing their posts to your story.”

The restaurant was recently named ‘Best Overall’ restaurant in Edinburgh by OpenTable based on customer reviews, and it’s closure signals another blow to Edinburgh’s once-thriving hospitality sector.
