Across 14 categories, the awards will recognise the incredible achievements of the Capital’s thriving food and drink scene in unprecedented times.

From Michelin-starred fine dining restaurants to cosy cafes and vibrant street food hotspots, there are plenty of rich culinary delights to celebrate across the city and Lothians.

The Edinburgh Evening News believes it is now more important than ever to recognise excellence across this valuable sector.

The event, sponsored by Zettle, a point-of-sale solution, will take place at Brewhemia in Market Street on Monday, 6 June.

The categories are Edinburgh Chef of the Year, Best Fine Dining Experience, Best Newcomer, Best Cafe/Deli, Best World Food Restaurant, Best Gastro Pub & Brewery, Best Family Friendly, Best Speciality, Best Takeaway Offering, Best Use of Outdoor Space, Best Customer Service, Best Seafood, Sustainability Award and Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year.

When it comes to ordering a takeaway in and around the Capital, there’s certainly plenty of choice.

During the pandemic, some businesses had to adapt to offer a delivery service while the hospitality industry was closed.

So the Best Takeaway Offering title – sponsored by Mealzo, Scotland’s largest zero per cent commission online food portal – new for this year’s event, will be a hotly contested prize.

Also new for this year is the Best Use of Outdoor Space award. As with those in the takeaway category, many food and drink businesses adapted by opening up their outdoor spaces during the pandemic. The title will go to a restaurant or bar that has its clientele comfortably covered for al fresco fare, come rain or shine.

Customer service can make or break a restaurant and so this year’s ceremony will celebrate those who strive to ensure guests enjoy their dining experience so much they return time again.

The Best Customer Service award was most recently won by Pizzeria 1926, on Dalry Road, at the 2019 event.

The Edinburgh dining scene has changed in many ways over the years, but perhaps one of the indicators of confidence in the market is the growth of fine dining establishments.

The winner of the Best Fine Dining Experience will offer something special or unexpected to diners seeking a memorable night.

Previously, the title was awarded to 21212 on Royal Terrace, which is run by chef Paul Kitching.
