Across 14 categories, the awards will recognise the incredible achievements of the Capital’s thriving food and drink scene in unprecedented times.
From Michelin-starred fine dining restaurants to cosy cafes and vibrant street food hotspots, there are plenty of rich culinary delights to celebrate across the city and Lothians.
The Edinburgh Evening News believes it is now more important than ever to recognise excellence across this valuable sector.
The event, sponsored by Zettle, a point-of-sale solution, will take place at Brewhemia in Market Street on Monday, 6 June.
The categories are Edinburgh Chef of the Year, Best Fine Dining Experience, Best Newcomer, Best Cafe/Deli, Best World Food Restaurant, Best Gastro Pub & Brewery, Best Family Friendly, Best Speciality, Best Takeaway Offering, Best Use of Outdoor Space, Best Customer Service, Best Seafood, Sustainability Award and Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year.
The highly-anticipated Edinburgh Restaurant of the Year award is sponsored by Zettle. Judges will consider nominees named specifically for this category, as well as establishments in any other category, in their search for the Capital’s top restaurant.
In 2019, the award went to Fhior after it delighted customers by using authentic ingredients at its Broughton Street premises in a highly inventive way.
The Best Takeaway Offering accolade is sponsored by Mealzo, Scotland’s largest zero per cent commission online food portal. A spokesperson said: “We are delighted to shine a spotlight on the hard-working takeaways who have been a major support network to their local communities.
“Mealzo has around 1,000 takeaway partners, and we know first-hand how challenging recent years have been.
“While a stay-at-home order was issued, our local takeaways were out on the frontline providing meals and contact-free delivery services. It is for these reasons that we are immensely proud to present this award.”
Backing the Best Fine Dining Experience title is the Edinburgh School of Food and Wine. It stated: “We wanted to sponsor the Best Fine Dining Experience award as the hospitality sector has faced so many challenges over the last couple of years, that the recognition of an award is more significant than ever.
“[We have] many trainee chefs passing through our doors, and we want to celebrate the fine dining aspect and applaud the hard work that is required in these establishments.”
