Coronavirus: McDonald's to close seating areas and move to drive through and takeaway only

McDonald’s has announced plans to temporarily close its seating areas and offer takeaway, drive-through and delivery only.

Posting through its official Twitter account, the company wrote that the move will take place on Wednesday (18th March) morning, adding that with immediate effect, its drive-throughs and deliveries will now be contact-free with “no physical contact between customers, employees and couriers wherever possible”.

The global fast-food giants stated that its restaurants will remain open for “as long as it is safe to do so”.

The firm also confirmed that it has made the difficult decision to delay the Monopoly promotion until later in the year, until they can be “confident” that customers can win, claim and redeem the prizes available.

When asked if they would be “closing down the touch ordering screens” for takeaway orders, the fast-food brand failed to respond.
