Bar review: Sygn, Edinburgh

ENTREPRENEURS Mark Fraser and Michael Spink knew they were on to a good thing when they opened Sygn, on Charlotte Lane, five years ago.

Tucked away in the West End, off the main drag of the city centre, the bar setting was, and remains, relaxed and intimate, proving popular with revellers wanting something a little different.

So perhaps it came as no surprise when the pair launched another venture nearby last year – a bar paying testament to the area they have firmly stamped their mark on.

The WestRoom, on Melville Place, is a cosy, warm venue with modern interiors, aiming to become a chic meeting point for shoppers, diners and business workers.

The venue has a classy sitting room feel about it, owing to its neutral decor and homely furnishings, making it perfect for drinks or a meal.

When it comes to food, diners should expect a contemporary twist on traditional dishes, including a pork, chilli and chorizo burger with melting Mull cheddar (6.50) and Cullen Skink stovies (6.50).

Worth a visit.
