All the Scottish medal winners at 2026 British Pie Awards - including Outlander pie
The 2026 British Pie Awards took place this month, and two Scottish businesses took home the honours.
The British Pie Awards, held in Britain's iconic pie capital of Melton Mowbray, celebrated the ‘upper crust’ of the pie making world - with Scotland taking its fair share of accolades.
A whopping 1,040 pies from 189 bakers and pie makers across the country were submitted for the coveted trophies on offer, with entries ranging from traditional flavours such as chicken and vegetable and steak and kidney through to more unique, experimental pies such as West Lothian’s Boghall Butcher’s chicken shawarma pie.
Last year’s supreme champions with their kebab pie, the family-run Boghall Butchers in Bathgate were hoping to win big again with their latest creation.
Speaking on our Scran podcast, owner Paul Boyle said that it was winning the 2005 World Championship Scotch Pie Awards that gave them the “bug for competitions.” He said: “We won it and that's really what made our shop. We went from a staff of four to a staff of eight to 10 people working for us. It caused a huge impact on our business. When we won that competition, we kept on going. We got the bug for competitions.”
It was daughter Mariesha Boyle who created the pie recipe: “We did a few tests, a few special recipes and eventually finessed it with our own blend of seasoning and some different chilli sauces. The sales of the kebab pie since we won have gone through the roof.”

While Boghall weren’t two-time supreme champions - this year’s top prize went to the chicken kiev pie from Baldy’s Pies in Wigan - they won in their class for steak and kidney pie and were highly commended for their new chicken shawarma creation.
Other Scottish businesses to win accolades in the 2026 British Pie Awards include: The Outlander from Signature Group in Edinburgh, which was the meat and potato pie class winner; and Signature Group also took home highly commended for their steak and ale pie.
The historic awards are organised by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, with Stephen Hallam, Mark Beeston and Matthew O'Callaghan as co-organisers. The Melton Building Society returned as sponsor of the Supreme Champion Award. Judges this year, of which there were 169, included representatives from Selfridges, M&S and department store Fortnum and Mason, alongside food writers and a Great British Bake Off winner, as well as a plethora of chefs and pie experts.
Matthew O’Callaghan, chairman of the Melton Pork Pie Association and host of the British Pie Awards, said of this year’s awards: “The British Pie Awards continue to showcase the remarkable depth of talent, passion and creativity within our baking industry.
“From time-honoured regional recipes to bold and contemporary flavour combinations, this year’s entries demonstrate just how firmly the pie remains at the heart of British food culture.
“As this year’s Supreme Champion, Baldy’s represents the very pinnacle of craftsmanship and innovation, a true celebration of quality ingredients, skill and dedication. It has been an immense pleasure to witness such extraordinary standards once again.”
