First Dog Guidance 2026: Here are the 20 best and worst breeds of adorable dog for inexperienced owners - from Rottweiler to loving Labrador 🐶

Getting a dog for the first time can be a daunting experience. Here are the breeds likely to make it a little less so - and those who could prove to be challenging to say the least.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a new dog then you’re not alone – Royal Kennel Club (that’s the new name for the UK Kennel Club) figures show that the number of people looking for puppies has surged to record levels over recent years.
