Zoom lift 40-minute time limit over festive period to help families come together virtually amid coronavirus restrictions

With coronavirus restrictions preventing large Christmas gatherings this year, virtual meeting app, Zoom, has announced that it is lifting its 40-minute call limit to ensure users can spend as much time as possible with their loved ones via the app.

In a statement on their website, Zoom said: “Covid-19 has changed how we live, work, and celebrate in 2020, and like everything else this year, the holiday season doesn’t look the same.

"As a token of appreciation to our users during an extraordinary time, we’re removing the 40-minute limit on free Zoom accounts for all meetings globally for several upcoming special occasions.”

They added: “Whether coming together on the final day of Hanukkah, celebrating Christmas, ringing in the New Year, or marking the last days of Kwanzaa, those connecting with friends and family won’t get cut short.”

Users can enjoy unlimited zoom calls on three occasions, the first being right now, until tomorrow, Saturday, December 19, at 11am.

The second from Wednesday, December 23, at 3pm until Boxing Day, Saturday, December 26, at 11am.

The third set time allows you to virtually ring in the New Year with your loved ones, no matter where you are in the world. Unlimited calls will apply from 3pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 and last until 11am on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

The restrictions will automatically lift during the designated times, users don’t have to do anything.

Users are reminded to be careful and protect their gatherings by using passwords and enabling the ‘Waiting Rooms’ feature.
