Usually at Glasgow Christmas Market, there are two markets, on St Enoch Square and George Square.

On October 27th, it was announced that the George Square Christmas Market has been cancelled for 2021.

The company who runs this market, Market Place Europe, said that the event couldn’t go ahead due to experiencing access difficulties to the site because of COP26.

"It's 100% been cancelled,” said a spokesperson for the company. “The reason is following COP26 the council couldn't guarantee the accessibility to George Square because they don't know how many people will be staying behind.

"There could be activities going on that we don't know about and we need to have 100% access to the site."

However, it’s not known if these attractions will still appear in St Enoch Square or other locations this year, or disappear altogether.

Traditional German bars are also dotted around the square, serving warm Glühwein and regional beers.
