Edinburgh’s Street Party is back with a bang in the capital’s historic city centre on 31 December and promises to light-up the Edinburgh skies at one of the greatest New Year celebrations in the world.

The world-famous Street Party is only part of three days of events.

The celebrations start with the Night Afore Disco Party featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor with special guests Altered Images, fronted by Clare Grogan, on Friday 30 December. The Street Party returns on Saturday 31 December, together with the showcase Concert in the Gardens headlined by Pet Shop Boys and the spectacular Midnight Moment to welcome in 2023.

The duo will welcome the arrival of 2023 with a greatest-hits show. They return to the Hogmanay celebrations here with their latest tour production, nine years after they played the sold-out event in 2013. The hugely successful pop duo have toured extensively this year and have seen their music embraced by new generations of music fans around the world. Their Glastonbury headline slot received rave reviews everywhere.

The Final Fling on Sunday 1 January 2023 tops off a day of free events and live performances taking place in attractions, venues, and pubs throughout the capitals Old and New Town areas.

Be part of the show

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Edinburgh Castle, 30,000 revellers will party their way into 2023 with live DJ soundtracks, giant screens, funfair attractions and a delicious selection of street food and drink throughout the arena.

For the first time ever Street Party revellers will become part of the show, and the spectacular Midnight Moment, with personal LED Wristbands lighting-up the party on West Princes Street connecting friends old and new from around the world to welcome in the New Year.

Penny Dougherty of Unique Events and William Burdett-Coutts of Assembly Festival, Directors of the Edinburgh-based event producers who were appointed in June to produce Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, said “We can’t wait to welcome people back to celebrate in Edinburgh at the Home of Hogmanay. our new LED wristbands will ensure that all the Street Party revellers are part of the show, and part of the spectacular Midnight Moment as we bring in 2023 together.”

Revellers can expect an unforgettable firework and light show, and a new level of involvement with the addition of the personal LED Wristbands. I can’t wait to see it.

Collaborating with tech innovators Xylobands, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay joins a list of high-profile international events, including Glastonbury and Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony 2022, to embrace the technology which connects audiences directly to the music making them part of an unforgettable and visually stunning show.

And pyrotechnic wizards Titanium are back again to design what is considered to be one of the world’s best New Year firework displays, launched from the stunning setting of Edinburgh Castle for an unforgettable firework and light spectacular.

Calling all Disco Divas

Pop-princess Sophie Ellis-Bextor, together with special guests Altered Images, will perform at the Night Afore Disco Party with Forth 1 to get the 2022 Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party started. This all-new family event for disco divas of all ages takes place on Friday 30 December under Edinburgh Castle in Princes Street Gardens and will be hosted by Forth 1 DJ Boogie spinning the wheels of steel with dancefloor classics, spot-prize give-aways, and a few surprises.

Final fling

Scottish sensation Tide Lines will headline the inaugural New Year’s Day ‘Final Fling’, a showcase of Scotland’s finest musicians to close the 2022/23 Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations. Tide Lines will be joined by special guests Elephant Sessions and Edinburgh’s own Hamish Hawk, in an all-Scottish line-up at the outdoor concert on Sunday 1 January 2023.

Glasgow based Tide Lines, whose members all hail from the Highlands and Hebrides, have built up a strong Scottish following since their debut single in 2016. They recently announced a new album ‘An Ocean Full of Islands’ is to be released on 24th February 2023.
