A stunning Citroen DS restored for TV’s Salvage Hunters Classic Cars is being put up for sale this week.
The 1972 DS 21 was among the classic cars restored in the most recent series of the hit show and is the first car from the show to be sold via an online auction.
With just three previous owners and fewer than 48,000km on the clock the TV car is a rare example of an already rare car - only around 100 are thought to remain on the road in the UK.
The car was bought by the show’s presenting team Drew Pritchard and Paul Cowland before undergoing a thorough restoration inside and out to bring it up to its current standard.
Everything from the chassis up received attention from a team of specialists who renewed, repaired or replaced mechanical components and body panels to ensure the car looked and ran like new. It was then treated to a full respray in Brun Scarabeewith a contrasting Gris Palladium roof.
The worn-out interior was also refurbished and upgraded to feature many of the elements of the famous Pallas trim, including its luxury seats. Modern touches include a digital radio and Bluetooth system controlled via the original car’s switches, and a modern speaker system.
The car is being sold via Car & Classic, whose head of editorial Chri Pollitt, commented: “We’re really excited to be offering this gorgeous DS via our auction platform. There’s no TV magic here – the guys that have done the restoration on this really have spared no expense.
“If you’re after, or have always toyed with the notion of a DS, this is the one. The paint is flawless, the interior almost like new. Nothing has been missed – this is an example of how a restoration should be done. And being a TV star, you get extra kudos when you take it out to car shows and the like. It’s just a wonderful machine.”
The auction goes live on Thursday, 11 February and carries a guide price of £24,000 to £28,000.
Launched in 1955 and enjoying a 20-year lifespan, the DS was famous for its futuristic looks and technology. This included being the first mass production car with disc brakes, directional headlights linked to the steering system, a clutchless semi-automatic transmission and its innovative hydropneumatic suspension suspension.
