Trio of rare Ferraris up for grabs at £950,000

Any petrolhead knows that owning a Ferrari is a big deal and most would be happy with a single example parked in their garage.

However, for some the lure of the prancing horse is too great and they want a whole stable of Maranello’s finest.

For such lucky individuals there’s good news as an Edinburgh car dealer has just put on sale a trio of very special models from the Italian manufacturer.

Up for grabs are a 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and a 458 Speciale. The special edition cars, all in matching black and with Ferrari’s full-length racing stripes are being sold as a single lot by the Leven Car Company with an asking price of just shy of £1 million.

All three models were designed to be more focused track-ready version of Ferrari’s entry-level supercars. Engine and chassis tweaks helped get the most performance out of already potent cars.

The oldest of the trio - the 360 Challenge Stradale - is perhaps the rarest of all three. Fewer than 120 of the special edition models were officially imported to the UK and only around 1,000 exist globally.

While power from the 3.6-litre V8 was increased by a modest 20bhp (to a healthy 420bhp), weight was stripped from the car and throttle and steering input sharpened to make it even more involving to drive.

When the F360 run ended it was replaced by the F430 and in time the spiritual successor to the Challenge Stradale appeared in the form of the Scuderia. Power from the brand new 4.3-litre V8 was up from 483bhp to 503bhp and a weight-saving programme saw it drop 100kg. Ferrari claimed the Scuderia was as quick around its Fiorano test track as an Enzo. Only 165 F430 Scuderias officially came to Britain.

The newest of the trio - the 2015 458 Speciale - continues the more power, less weight approach of the Challenge Stradale and Scuderia. Ferrari’s engineers managed to wring 597bhp out of the retuned 4.5-litre V8 and shaved 90kg from the car’s weight. Revised suspension and steering and active aero components helped make it 1.5 seconds quicker than a standard 458 around Fiorano.

On their own each of these cars is something special, together they’re a mouth-watering prospect. And yours for a mere £950,000.
