Preview: Hyundai HND-9

As their neighbours in the north put the world in a state of heightened alert, the South Koreans are busy turning a blind eye to Kim Jong Wotsit’s atomic posturing, and are instead focusing on the Seoul Motor Show and all the concept car craziness that entails.

One of the stars of the show is the Hyundai HND-9, a luxury coupe concept that gives a nod to the company’s future design direction. Bring it on, we say. The car, not the nuclear nonsense.

Butterfly doors, 22-inch wheels and rear-wheel drive tick all the gentleman racer boxes. The engine is a 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 petrol, with 365bhp to propel the HND-9’s 15-and-a-bit-feet-long body along the road. Not that you’ll ever see it on a road, of course.

Not to be outdone, sister company Kia revealed the Cub concept a compact four-door coupe-styled thing with rearward opening rear doors (like a Rolls Royce Phantom) and no B-pillars (like a Ford B-Max). Does anyone else think it looks a bit like what the Austin Allegro might have become if production had been handed to Audi at the end of the 70s? Anyone? No?
