IT’S 50 years since Jim Clark swept aside the opposition to claim his first Formula One World Championship title, steering his Lotus Type 25 to victory in an astonishing seven of that year’s ten races.

To mark the event, Club Lotus is organising a closed-street celebration in Duns, close to where Clark grew up in the Scottish Borders, this weekend.

Two of Clark’s 1963 Lotus Formula One Championship-winning Type 25 cars will be on display. They will be joined by a Lotus Cortina also raced by Clark, his first Lotus Elan which he used to drive to many races during 1963 and a Lotus 23B Sports Racer of the type also driven by Clark.

Tomorrow, Club Lotus members will enjoy a drive through the Scottish Borders, exploring many of the roads Jim Clark sharpened his skills on. On Sunday, the cars will be fired up for a live demonstration on closed streets in Duns, followed by a convoy to Chirnside, where a memorial service will take place at Chirnside Parish Church.
