Ingliston race circuit back on track

The Ingliston Revival will take place at Edinburgh’s Ingliston circuit on 12-13 September with events both on and off the track aimed at keeping car-lovers and families entertained.

The weekend is the inaugural event for the Ingliston Revival whose organisers plan to make it an annual fixture in Scotland’s motor calendar.

Built in 1965 by the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland, the Ingliston Circuit was home to regular racing meetings and attracted big names such as Sir Jackie Stewart, pictured right, and Jim Clark but this will be the first time in over 20 years that a public motoring event will be held at the circuit.

From driving some of the world’s top supercars around the track and admiring hundreds of classic and modern cars to sipping bubbly by the track, there is something to suit all.

Top Gear’s former Stig Ben Collins will be among the celebrity guests, together with Lee McKenzie, BBC’s Formula One pitlane reporter.

Sandy Bloomer, event director of Ingliston Revival, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating the 50th anniversary by reinstating the track once used by some of the country’s top iconic world champion drivers.

“It’s a fantastic chance to let people see some of Scotland’s top vintage and modern day cars where visitors can drive them or watch from the track-side.”

Throughout each day the track will host driving experiences, classic car rallies and demonstrations with a variety of vehicles. Visitors can also get in on the action by driving one of a selection of supercars, including a Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes SLS, Aston Martin DB9, Nissan GTR, BMW i8 and McLaren MP4-12c.

Many of these premium car manufacturers, including Aston Martin, Lotus, Jaguar, Range Rover and McLaren, will also be showcasing a fleet of their latest models.

For those not quite old enough to experience driving the track first-hand or who fancy a bit of action off-track, there is a F1 simulator, Land Rover Driving Experience, twin racing simulator and giant Scalextric on site as well as a bucking bronco, Segway rallies, bungee run, bouncy castle and inflatable assault course.

Tickets are priced at £20 per adult with children under 16 going free.
