Apple issues advice over '˜error 53' message

Since the tech giant released the iOS9 update, several users have reported that their devices have stoped working and that a message reading ‘error 53’ has appeared on their screens.

The fatal error is thought to affect iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S models that have been repaired or fixed by third parties.

Apple has issued a statement saying that the error message protects customers, but hundreds of users have reported that their iPhones have been ‘bricked’ - that is, broken beyond repair.

An Apple statement read: “Error 53 is the result of security checks designed to protect our customers.

“iOS checks that the Touch ID sensor in your iPhone or iPad correctly matches your device’s other components.

“If there’s a mismatch, the check fails and Touch ID is disabled.

“This security measure is necessary to protect your device and prevent a fraudulent Touch ID sensor from being used.”

The California-based firm have encouraged anyone who has encountered an error 53 message to contact Apple Support.
