Jurgen Klopp new favourite in Premier League sack race as Steven Gerrard front-runner to replace him

Steven Gerrard is the favourite to become next permanent manager of Liverpool as current boss Jurgen Klopp was placed at the top of the English Premier League sack race by the bookmakers.

On Betfair, the German is now 3/1 odds to become the next manager to leave his post after Jose Mourinho was shown the door by Tottenham Hotspur on Monday.

Klopp was blindsided by the Liverpool owners helping to push through the controversial plan for a European Super League – an idea Klopp has been criticial of in the past, something he reiterated on Monday evening. The 53-year-old insists he isn’t looking for a way out of Anfield, but this latest development couple with Liverpool’s poor defence of their EPL crown has the former Borussia Dortmund coach’s immediate future in doubt.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is next at 13/2 after being linked with the vacant manager’s job at Spurs, while Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace (7/1) and Fulham manager Scott Parker (8/1) are next in line.

If Klopp goes, Gerrard is the favourite to succeed him with odds as low as 6/4 with Betfair. The Anfield legend has always been looked upon as a possible Reds manager of the future and his candidacy has only been strengthened after claiming his first Scottish Premiership crown as Rangers boss.

The 40-year-old is also favoured to pick up a league and cup double after dumping rivals Celtic out of the Scottish Cup on Sunday, while earlier in the campaign he managed to lead the Ibrox side to the last 16 of the Europa League for the second season in succession.
