Nostalgia: Newhaven Harbour vandals

While these days those who live and work in Newhaven Harbour are focused on the fall-out from the tram project, on this day in 1984 there was another source of local disquiet. The mv Capricorn, a boat valued at over £15,000, had been sunk at her moorings, with vandals the suspected culprits.

It was the latest incident in a series over a two-week period, which saw at least five other vessels damaged, with sophisticated electronic equipment stolen or
destroyed. Christopher Law, 25, owner of the Capricorn, said: “To wreck a boat and to go so far as to sink one is mindless.”
