Head to Scone Palace for this antique and fine art fair
The Palace will provide a stunning backdrop to what promises to be a glittering array of antiques and artworks, ranging from little keepsakes to grand statement pieces, perfect for a spot of early Christmas shopping.
This is the 30th year that Scone Palace has played host to the biannual Galloway Antiques Fairs, when dealers from the length and breadth of the country gather to showcase their wares.
Hugely popular with serious collectors through to shoppers simply looking for something different for their home or garden, the fairs always throw up something new and different to see and buy.
With price tags ranging from just £20 up to £30,000 - and everything from silver to porcelain, pottery to glass, beautiful vintage jewellery to unique fine art - there is bound to be something that catches your eye.
Don’t miss these
Among the stars of the show will be a beautiful late 19th century Mahogany Chippendale GrandDaughter clock featuring Gothic-influenced carving and beautiful finely fluted columns. Priced at £4695, it is being brought by Mark Buckley Antiques of North Yorkshire, specialists in inlaid Victorian and Edwardian furniture.
For something a bit different, check out Solo Antiques from Lancashire who have a stunning selection of glass and sculptures from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras.
Look out for the quirky Daum glass and silver Absinthe or Opera Muff flask (£1695), designed so ladies could carry a tipple of absinthe in their glove and sneak a secret drink from its silver cup.
Rowles Fine Art of Shropshire are bringing a delightful bronze sculpture entitled ‘Five Screech Owls’, one of a dozen made and signed by artist Jonathan Knight, whose clients included the late HM Queen Elizabeth II.
Items with royal links are always popular - another highlight is likely to be a Victorian silver vinaigrette of Windsor Castle, made in 1839 by Nathaniel Mills, one of the best box makers of the age. It is being brought to the Fair by Highland Antiques, a silver dealer from Aberdeen, and is priced at £1195.
If you’re seeking out something special for your home, John Briggs of Aberdeen will have a colourful display of carpets and rugs from around the world.
Grand day out
More than 30 expert dealers from as far afield as Kent will have stands set out in the Palace’s main state rooms, including the dining room, drawing room, library and Long Gallery.
Browse the antiques, refuel on homemade treats at the Palace tearoom and explore Palace’s impressive rooms and beautiful estate – making it a grand day out packed with history and heritage.
