Historic Environment Scotland (HES), which is responsible for more than 300 heritage sites, has announced plans for a phased reopening of its attractions, with 70 per cent to be open again by mid-September. The sites include both free to access and ticketed properties, with the reopening to start from 1 August. Here are 23 of the Scottish sites that are due to open in August and September.
21. St Andrews Castle

22. St Andrews Cathedral
Built in 1158, only the remains still stand of Scotland’s largest and most impressive medieval church, with the ruins indicating it once stood at 390ft in length. It is open again from late August. Photo: Shutterstock
23. Tantallon Castle
