From the sight of geese returning to traditional folklore and, of course, autumn leaves, these are some of the sights, customs and traditions that summer in Scotland is coming to an end. Thanks to Scottish Wildlife Trust for their contributions.
9. The robin changes its song
The robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round, and autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song is more subdued and melancholy in its tone. Photo: Shutterstock
10. Hair in the milk
It was an ancient custom in the Highlands and Islands that on Lammas Day a ball of hair was put in the milk pail to help keep it good and strong and protect it from dark spirits. Photo: Shutterstock
11. Leaves changing
Depending on your location changes are already being seen in leaves, with the very beginnings of the spectacular autumn display of reds, russets and golds starting to show. Photo: Flickr/jk_scotland
