10 of Scotland's best road trips to enjoy this autumn
Escape the everyday and watch the routine fade in the rear view mirror as you take the high road, the low road, or any old road to a different place.

1. Glencoe, A82
Scotland has no shortage of big thrill drives, including the A82 through Glencoe where you will be dwarfed by the mighty Three Sisters mountains which seem like they are in touching distance. PIC: Visit Scotland/Kenny Lam. Photo: Visit Scotland/Kenny Lam

2. Bealach na Ba, Wester Ross
Another classic drive is the road over to Applecross, an ascent that tests the nerves as the carriageway narrows and the bends tighten. PIC: geograph.org/Stuart Wilding Photo: geograph.org

3. Rest And Be Thankful, A83
A favourite road to sample the changes in the season, with this route offering that true pressure drop experience as the open road takes over. Skirt the west side of Loch Lomond and join the A83, where you will climb more than 800ft. Stop at the viewpoint, and allow your breath to be taken away. PIC: Visit Scotland. Photo: Visit Scotland

4. Aberfoyle to Callander via Loch Venachar, A821
Soak up some seasonal sensations on the A821, where you'll cut through the glorious gold and russet Queen Elizabeth Forest and drop down from winding Duke’s Pass to Loch Venachar. If you need to find autumn, you’ll find it here. PIC: Visit Scotland/Paul Tomkins. Photo: Visit Scotland
