Tonsils patient wins £62,000 damages for loss of teeth

A WOMAN has been awarded £61,800 damages after a surgeon knocked out her two front teeth during a routine, childhood operation to remove her tonsils.

Sarah Marshall, 21, sued Fife Health Board for compensation over negligence following the surgery at the Victoria Hospital, in Kirkcaldy in 1996, when she was aged six.

During a hearing at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, Miss Marshall, of Leven, Fife, said she experienced bullying as a child following the hospital accident.

She may face further dental treatment, possibly implants, and said she would rather have that done privately.

The health authority admitted liability in a £100,000 claim, but the level of damages was contested.
