Three more Scottish patients die of flu

Three more patients from Scotland have died with flu, bringing the total this winter to 23, figures show.

Health Protection Scotland also revealed that a further seven patients with flu had been admitted to intensive care in the last week.

A total of 78 patients have needed intensive care treatment for flu this winter - seven of these suffering from the swine flu strain of the illness.

The figures came after it emerged a Scottish patient from Sanquhar with swine flu has been receiving specialist treatment at a hospital in Leicester.

Yesterday a spokeswoman for NHS Dumfries and Galloway said: “The patient who was transferred to a specialist hospital in Leicester to be treated for the H1N1 virus is currently critical but stable.”
