WHY GO?

On Monday, this upmarket beauty brand’s Fall collection will arrive, with key pieces including an Eye Quad in Nude Dip (£63), to be used wet or dry, and a sophisticated Private Blend fragrance – Velvet Orchid (£75), which boasts notes of bergamot, honey and orange blossom. However, the new Perfecting Traceless Foundation SPF15 (£62) has already landed. Though I love all Tom Ford’s colours and perfumes, his foundations are the bomb. Essentially, they make skin appear almost flawless in colour and texture. Once you’ve tried them, other bases seem rather cakey.

OUR SPY SAYS

Super-groomed make-up artist Gillian-Louise is the perfect spokesperson. She sets to work with brushes in every size, instantly matching my skin to a Fawn shade of the lightweight new foundation. It is slicked all over my face, right up to the outside corners of my eyes. There’s an ergonomic new Concealer Pen (£40), as well as a groovy dual-ended Correcting Pen (£34), with a pink cream at one end and a yellow pencil at the other, both of which are designed to magic away shadows. I suddenly look less like Droopy dog.

However, I’m a bit frightened when Gillian-Louise unleashes the Shade and Illuminate (£56) palette, which contains a chocolate brown colour and a pure white. Still, when an initially scary slick of brown is painted on just below my cheekbone, then gently faded out with a brush, my face does look more sculpted and less doughy. There’s a vague glimmer of cheekbone somewhere. According to Gillian-Louise, you can even make your nose appear narrower or shorter with this stuff, which certainly saves on surgery. There’s a similar trend towards sculpting, with the new Contouring Cheek Colour Duos (£56). Finally, I’m dusted with some feathery light Translucent Powder (£56), the paler shade in the Shade and Illuminate compact is dabbed on to my brow bone and at the points where the light would hit the top of my cheeks, and my apples are pepped up by Cheek Colour in Ravish (£47).

THE RESULTS

I look as groomed as a thoroughbred pony, without a single flaw on my usually blotchy face.
