The site is located within the grounds of the existing Southern General Hospital.

Four crews from Govan, Knightswood and Renfrew attended the scene before the fire was extinguished at 1.45pm by six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

“The fire was at the building site of the new Southern General Hospital, not the existing hospital,” a fire service spokesman said.

“It started in the second-floor plant room. Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put the fire out.”

No casualties were reported and an investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
