Scots woman loses half her weight after '˜nightmare flight'

A SCOTTISH woman has revealed how she lost half her body weight after a '˜nightmare flight' to the USA.

Claire Campbell, from Dundee, was delighted to be invited to the States when her friend scooped $64,000 on the US edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, but what should have been the trip of a lifetime turned to agony.

Weighing in at nearly 19 stone at the time, the Dundee University student endured hours of discomfort as she travelled, so when a second invite followed she decided something had to change.

After signing up to Weight Watchers. the 29-year-old cosplay enthusiast slimmed down to an incredible 10st 7lbs in just over a year.

She said: “A friend of mine lives in America - they actually won Who Wants to be a Millionaire of all things - and so she wanted to pay for my flight out.

“My friend was very big into her game shows.

“She was the last contestant on that episode of the programme and won something like $64,000.

“I was over 18 stone, and it was such a horrible flight.

“After I got back I was all swollen up for a few days.

“A few years later my friend invited me back out and I knew I had to do something about my weight.”

Just seven months after starting her diet Claire lost over 50 pounds and was ready for her next trip to America.

She said: “When I arrived, my friend walked past me twice. She didn’t even recognise me because of the weight loss.”

The 29-year-old, who is currently studying biomedical science at the University of Dundee, has lost more than the entire weight of her son, Daniel.

With newly-found confidence, the avid cosplayer now enjoys getting photos taken when she heads along to conventions with her daughter, and gave advice for anyone else who wanted to lose some weight.

She said: “Write down everything you’re eating. Look up the calorie count online or on Google Play or Apple. That way you can easily get a rough estimate of what you’re having.

“Buy yourself a food scale too. You just don’t realise the quantities you’re eating without it.”

Another trick Claire used was to use smaller plates, to make it look like you’re eating more even when you have less food.
