Retail bosses urge Borders shoppers to stop panic-buying

Supermarket shelves across the Borders are being emptied across the region as the current coronavirus outbreak leads to panic-buying taking hold.

The supermarket has seen retail sales jump since its financial year end due to "considerable" stockpiling amid the coronavirus crisis.

Rationing has been introduced for in-demand products such as soap, pasta and toilet rolls at Tesco in Galashiels and Morrisons in Hawick.

What started with unprecedented demand for sanitising gel and toilet tissue quickly moved on to tinned items and now embraces everything from sweet treats to alcohol.

And the public appear to be ignoring warnings from the supermarket giants not to panic-buy.
