Professor joins cancer panel

A SCOTTISH professor is on the judging panel for a new scholarship in cancer research.

David Cameron, professor of oncology at the University of Edinburgh, is one of five cancer researchers and clinicians who will decide who to give the scholarship to.

The scholarship is being offered by the UK Research Council and GlaxoSmithKline Oncology, and is backed by cancer charities, including the Institute of Cancer Research and Cancer Research UK, as well as universities specialising in cancer research.

Prof Cameron, who is also director of NHS services at NHS Lothian, said: “The judging panel are united in their passion for furthering UK oncology research and recognise the positive benefits for both science and patients that result from joint industry-academic research. We very much welcome the chance to be involved in choosing the successful candidate.”
