Most have had mental crisis

THE majority of people in the UK have suffered at least one incident in their lives where they found it difficult to cope mentally, according to a survey published today.

Mental health charity Together said the figures – which identify 62 per cent of the population facing a crisis at some time – indicated there should be an end to a "them and us" attitude on the topic of mental health.

The research found that 70 per cent of people had suffered stress, 59 per cent anxiety and 55 per cent depression.

Liz Felton, the charity's chief executive, said: "We hope the results go some way to try and reduce the 'them and us' mentality about the topic that can lead to stigma, and perhaps prevents some people from seeking help."
