Libyans who lost limbs in conflict to be treated in Scotland

TEN Libyans who lost limbs during the revolution that deposed Colonel Gaddafi will receive treatment in Scotland.

The patients will be cared for at WESTmarc prosthetics centre, part of the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, which is run by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

All costs for the prosthetics treatment will be met by the Libyan embassy in Britain.

65 Libyan civilians in total will receive help through the NHS in the UK.

Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: “It is right that we play our part in the UK effort by helping innocent casualties from the war in Libya where we can.

“I am pleased to say that NHS Scotland is able to offer 10 patients specialist prosthetics treatment and they arrived safely in Scotland at the weekend.

“Scotland offers excellent prosthetics care and we can now offer this quality of care to others who urgently need it.”
