Leith 'mini-hospital' opens

HEALTH Minister Malcolm Chisholm was today due to officially open a new £8 million "mini-hospital" in the Capital.

The Leith Community Treatment Centre is a long-awaited replacement for the Leith and Eastern General hospitals and offers outpatient and day services for adults and children in north-east Edinburgh.

Mr Chisholm said: "I hope it will provide a model to be replicated in communities across Scotland."

The Junction Place centre provides services including X-rays, community dental services and maternity services in a purpose-built facility.

Brian Cavanagh, chairman of NHS Lothian, said: "It is a first-class building, providing modern healthcare services in the heart of the community and is an example of what we are planning to introduce across NHS Lothian."
