'It's a day I'll never forget' - Scottish care home throws hen party for key worker whose wedding was cancelled

Care home staff and residents made it a day to remember for Danielle.

A care home hosted a hen party for a key worker whose wedding has been put off until next year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Danielle Moore, from Motherwell, is a domestic assistant at Avonbridge Care Home in South Lanarkshire.

She was due to get married to fiance Ryan Hughes, from Wishaw, in June.

But due to the COVID-19 lockdown measures, the 28-year-old’s special day has been cancelled and rearranged for next year.

Despite her wedding date being delayed, staff and residents made sure Danielle still had her hen party which had also been cancelled due to lockdown.

The Hamilton care home was decorated in balloons and had a pop-up snack bar with cocktails and prosecco over the weekend to make sure the essential worker was given a hen-do she would “never forget.”

The bride-to-be was taken by surprise by the party and said: "It was a lovely surprise to see the effort everyone made to cheer me up as I was sad that all our plans had to be cancelled.

“It was extra special to be able to celebrate with the residents in the home as well.

“It was a hen party I will not forget."

The key worker donned a bride-to-be sash, a veil and a tiara on the special day.

Residents joined in the fun wearing ‘bride’ banners and danced with staff.

Danielle met Ryan when the pair worked together at M&D’s Theme Park in 2016.

Ryan proposed in April 2018 in Rocca Restaurant, Hamilton.

They were both due to get married in Motherwell Civic Centre on the June 20, and then to The Thorniwood Social Club in Viewpark.

While it has been cancelled for this year, they still plan to get married at the same venue in 2021.
