Dementia home staff suspended

An INVESTIGATION has been launched at a care home for dementia sufferers after five members of staff were suspended over allegations of physical and verbal abuse.

Eildon Housing Association, which runs Craw Bank care home in Tweedbank in the Borders, confirmed yesterday that five of its workers were suspended pending an investigation.

The facility provides 24-hour care for older people with dementia and currently houses 25 residents. It was opened in 1996 in partnership with Borders Council’s health and social work department.

The council has now deployed extra social work and management staff to the home and said it is doing everything it can to safeguard residents.

Elaine Torrance, the council’s head of social care and health, said: “The council takes all concerns raised seriously and is doing all it can to ensure residents are safeguarded and will robustly investigate all reports of mistreatment.”
